This is a multifandom exchange for rare “/” (romantic and/or sexual) relationships only. Fic, art, and vids will be allowed as mediums you can request and offer fanworks in.
The exchange defines “rare” as “less than 200 completed works of 1000 words or greater, in English, on AO3, with otp:true applied to the search." (For an explanation of how to apply otp:true, see the "Nomination Guidelines for the Exchange" further down, under "Nominations."
Participants will write a new work of fanfiction of at least 1000 words, or new fanart that is at least detailed line art (no manips or graphics), or create a new vid at least one minute and thirty seconds in length, fulfilling one of their recipient’s requests.
An A03 account is required to participate. Currently AO3 sends out invites a few days after you request one. If you would like one without waiting in the queue, you may email rareexmod@gmail.com with the email address you'd like to use for your account and you will receive an invite.
Updates and information will be provided in the Dreamwidth community.
Bashing ships, requests, characters, kinks, or fics is not welcome and will lead to banning.
Note: This exchange has no affiliation with any previous ship exchange.

Dear Creator Letters Post
Nominations
During the nominations period, you may nominate the ships that will be available for you and others to request or offer during the sign-ups portion of the exchange. The nominations page is the tag set, and it will be linked when nominations are open. On that page, at the top, you will see a button that says “nominate." Once you have clicked on it and written your nominations in the form, you click submit at the bottom of the page. From then on, the button at the top of the page will show what you have nominated and whether it has been approved.
You may edit your nominations until they have been approved or until the nomination period has ended.
Nomination Guidelines for the Exchange
Ships must have less than 200 complete works in English of 1000 or more words, once otp:true has been applied. To check if your ship is eligible, first go to its tag. Then click the "Filters" button. On the menu that appears, go down to "More Options." Under "Completion Status", check "Complete works only." Under "Word Count", type "1000" (without the quotation marks) in the "From" box. In the "Search within results" box, type "otp:true" (without the quotation marks.) Under "Language", select "English." Lastly, click "Sort and Filter." The number of works left is the number that will count when determining eligibility.
You may nominate five fandoms and twenty relationships for each. Ships with three or more characters are allowed and encouraged as much as ships with two.
For ships involving three or more characters, eligibility will be determined by the ship as a whole, just as with any other ship. That is, "Finn/Kylo Ren/Rey (Star Wars Sequel Trilogy)" is eligible even though "Rey/Kylo Ren (Star Wars Sequel Trilogy)" is not. It will not be disqualified by “Rey/Kylo Ren (Star Wars Sequel Trilogy)" being part of the ship.
Crossover ships may be nominated under “Crossover Fandom," with the canon for each character following their names in parenthesis.
Original Works ships may be nominated under "Original Works."
Character/OC ships are allowed, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. They may be nominated under the fandom character's fandom, such as "Ahsoka Tano/Original Female Character (Star Wars: Rebels)."
Please specify the fandom in parentheses when nominating ship tags: if you nominate “Darla/Buffy Summers,” do it as “Darla/Buffy Summers (BtVS),” or “Darla/Buffy Summers (AtS).” For crossover ships, add the fandom in parenthesis after each character's name, such as: "Carol Danvers (MCU)/Buffy Summers (BtVS)." This is to keep the ship from showing up in the tag set except in the fandom under which it was nominated.
Note: Versions of the same ship from the same continuity will be counted as one even if the canon is broken up for nominations unless there are significant differences between the depictions, or a large time gap, in the different installments. If you believe this applies to your ship, you may post evidence in the Support Post, or in nominations clarifications posts if/when your ship appears in them.
If there is more than one version of a character within the same continuity, such as an alternate universe that exists in the same canon installment, then ships with one version of the character will be treated as different from ships with another version of the character. For example, "Wishverse Tara Maclay/Vampire Willow Rosenberg (BtVS)" is different from "Tara Maclay/Willow Rosenberg (BtVS)".
RPF may be nominated if the characters are eighteen or older. Living people who are not famous (the spouse, partner, or any friend or relative of a public figure) may not be nominated. In the event that an individual or their legal representation requests that a nomination be removed, their request will be honored.
If there seems to be a bug or glitch with your nominations, or you have any other questions, feel free to do any of the following: leave a comment on the Support Post, email to rareexmod@gmail.com, or PM the mod account. In the case of troubleshooting your nominations, please include a link to your nominations page.
Sign-ups
Please do not imply or outright state that you would prefer to receive one fandom you requested over another, or one ship you requested over another.
You are encouraged to only request/offer the fandoms/ships for which you would want to receive/produce a fanwork.
You may edit or delete your sign-up up until the sign-up period has ended.
Requests must include a minimum of three fandoms and may include as many as ten. Every fandom request must include at least one ship and may include up to forty. Relationships 1-20 go into the Relationship field. 21-40 goes into the Optional Tags field. The Optional Tags field will accept anything, but only tags that are identical to the tagset will be matched on. Any tags in the optional tags field that don't come from the tagset will be completely ignored by AO3's matching process. You must request at least one medium—fanfiction, fanart, or fanvid—and you may request all three. You will match to a creator on one fandom, one ship, and one medium.
Your request includes an optional details box. This is where, if you so choose, you can specify what sorts of things you like, what things you don't like, and offer prompts for your creator. All of those details are optional, except for your “do not wants" (DNWs): your creator must abide by the list and not include them. You may also include a link to a letter, where you can include all the above, but your "do not wants" must still be included in the box. “Do not wants" which only appear in the letter cannot be enforced by the exchange.
Offers must include a minimum of three fandoms and may include as many as ten. You must offer at least one medium—fanfiction, fanart, or fanvid—and you may offer all three. You will match to a recipient on one fandom, one ship, and one medium.
After sign-ups end, matching will be run so that everyone has an assignment. If any creator is without a recipient, they will be contacted and given two days to alter their offers.
If there's an issue signing up or you have any questions, feel free to do any of the following: leave a comment on the Support Post, email to rareexmod@gmail.com, or PM the mod account.
Assignments
Fic assignments must be at least 1000 words and a complete story created for the recipient and with one of their requested ships.
Art assignments must be an original piece (no manips or graphics) created for the recipient with one of their requested ships, in traditional or digital mediums, with at least detailed line art, and cannot be on lined paper.
Vid assignments must be at least one minute and thirty seconds long, created for the recipient with one of their requested ships.
You will match on one fandom, one ship, and one medium. You may create for another of your recipient's requested ships instead.
If your recipient has included “do not wants”, avoid them in your gift.
While your assignment must be fulfilled by the due date, you may edit it as much as you want even after the deadline has passed.
This exchange is anonymous. All works must have been posted for this exchange first and cannot be posted anywhere else until after the exchange is over. Works cannot be part of a previously posted series.
Do not reveal what you are working on or who your recipient is.
Assignments cannot be changed; contact the mod if yours doesn’t match anything you offered.
If you cannot complete your assignment, click the default button on your assignment page on AO3; alternately, contact the mod via PM or via rareexmod@gmail.com
If there are any questions about your assignment, please email rareexmod@gmail.com, or PM the mod account.
How to Post a Gift
You can find your “Assignments” page on AO3 via your Profile page, or on the page of the exchange collection as “Your Assignment.” You will see two buttons: “Post to fulfill" and "Default."
“Post to fulfill” will take you to a form you can fill out, which already has the name of your recipient and the name of the collection filled in. Complete all the required fields, preview it if you wish to see how it will look, and post.
If you want to post a treat, go to the exchange collection on AO3 and click “Post to Collection” under the title of the exchange. The posting form will have the exchange collection filled in. Add the recipient's name to the corresponding field, fill in the rest of the form, preview it if you wish to see how it will look, and post.
For another resource, here is a tutorial for posting on AO3.
Pinch Hits
Pinch hits are recipients without an assigned creator. You don't have to have signed up to pinch hit. Anybody may claim one, as long as they have an AO3 account.
All pinch hits will be posted on the Dreamwidth comm, with screened comments. To claim them, either leave a comment on the post with your AO3 name or email rareexmod@gmail.com with your AO3 name.
Treats
Treating--the practice of gifting fanworks outside the context of an assignment--is encouraged. You don't have to have signed up to treat. You can give treats to anyone who has signed up and has requests you'd like to create for. There is no minimum requirement for treats. You must abide by your treat recipient's “do not wants."
